What does it mean to be a working farm?
At Deep Roots CPS Farm, we often get asked, “Can we come by anytime to visit?” We love that people are curious about the farm — but here’s something we want to share from the heart:
We’re a working farm. That means when you see us at the market or hosting a workshop, there’s a whole world of effort, labor, and love behind the scenes.
So, What Is a Working Farm?
A working farm is exactly what it sounds like — a place where growing food, raising animals, and stewarding the land is a full-time job. It’s not a display. It’s not just for photos. It’s real work, every day.
We start early. Our team is out on the land by 7am feeding animals, harvesting crops, checking irrigation, and prepping for market.
We’re in constant motion. Between caring for chickens and goats, planting new rows, pruning herbs, and processing mushrooms — no two days look the same.
We produce real food. What you buy at our farm stand was harvested with intention, cleaned, packed, and brought to market with you in mind.
We Love Visitors — By Appointment
Because the farm is in full swing every day, we welcome visitors by appointment only. This ensures we can prepare a meaningful experience without interrupting critical farm work — and it keeps our animals, crops, and team safe and focused.
Whether you're interested in learning, volunteering, or just walking the land, we’ll happily schedule a time to connect. And when we host open events like farm-to-table dinners or seasonal markets, that’s your time to come immerse yourself in the rhythm of the farm.
Why It Matters
Understanding what it means to be a working farm helps us build mutual respect. Farming is joyful and sacred — but it’s also labor-intensive, time-sensitive, and deeply rooted in planning and care. When you honor that, you’re supporting not just our farm, but the greater movement for sustainable, just, and local food systems.
So the next time you bite into a fresh tomato, sip our lavender lemonade, or walk between rows of greens, know this:
You're experiencing the fruits of real, daily work. You're part of something living, breathing, and growing.
And we’re grateful you’re in it with us.
